I wonder whether these social media influencers are tapping into a need - that is, the struggle for many women to balance career success with a desire to be "taken care of." Maybe, sometimes, there is an allure to spending one's time making elaborate recipes and complicated sauces. I'm fully aware that TikTok "tradwives" with large followings are making serious money from their posts, so there's that. FWIW, I do enjoy cooking up a feast myself, for guests. But I'm not instagramming it.
It must partly be a reaction to that, as a function of a backlash against growing freedom for women. But yes, it's also a very lucrative business, so it's also something that you can't quite take at face value in a sense. Re: the cooking, it's never too late for a lucrative side-hustle....!
Not something you missed, but today Canadians mark the 35th anniversary of the Montreal Polytechnique massacre.
