Welcome to The Backlash. This newsletter is an attempt to understand the current moment in the fight for gender equality, and the evident backlash to feminist progress. Every month or so I will speak to someone who can explain what’s going on far better than I can. I will also share links to things I think are worth reading, watching or listening to. I want to think about feminist progress, and the backlash to it, globally. And I want to know whether the sheer hopelessness I feel about the persistence of sexism and misogyny is warranted. I sincerely hope to find out otherwise.
